The Indian Government has cancelled a deal between Devas Multimedia and the Indian Space Research Organisation’s (ISRO) commercial arm Antrix following allegations that Devas would get limited radio bandwidth for free and the exchequer would lose billions of dollars.

State-owned Antrix will not receive an orbit slot in S-band for commercial activities from the government due to increasing demand for public use of the airways.

Antrix’s inability to secure an orbit slot has resulted in the cancellation of Devas’s agreement with Antrix.

As per the agreement, Antrix was to build, launch and control two geostationary satellites, which would hover over the Indian subcontinent and assure Devas of leased capacity on the transponders.

Deutsche Telekom AG, Columbia Capital and Telcom Ventures are major investors in Devas Multimedia.
