Spirit AeroSystems has opened a new aerospace manufacturing and design facility in Malaysia.

The 242,000ft² facility will initially produce composite subassemblies for Airbus single-aisle aircraft.

The unit also includes an in-house design engineering team working on developing assemblies for the latest Airbus aircraft, the A350 XWB.

The project has received support from institutional bodies such as the Malaysian Industrial Development Authority, the Malaysian Industry-Government Group for High Technology and the Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad.

Spirit Malaysia will be located in the Malaysia International Aerospace Centre, adjacent to the runway for Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Subang.

The location will allow the facility to expand its products, capacity and services in the future.
