Aircraft manufacturing company Airbus has analysed tests of hydrogenated vegetable oils in biofuel demonstrations and is expected to make a decision on the viability of the fuel for powering aircraft within a three-month period.

Key questions on how fuels made from such oils would push the certification process of biofuels and the availability of material used in the testing will contribute to the decision, according to senior officials at the Paris Air Show.

The company will use fuel sourced from 100% of a feedstock instead a mix or blend, while algae has already been considered for the tests.

The company is expected to use an A320 for the demonstration following approval of the decision.
