United Technologies unit Pratt & Whitney Canada (P&WC) has launched its new PT6A-140A turboprop engine and the PT6A-140AG variant for the general aviation market.

The new engines expected to deliver better fuel efficiency, 15% more power and 5% better specific fuel consumption (SFC).

P&WC general aviation vice-president Denis Parisien said: "There are more than 70 PT6A engine models used for over 125 different aircraft applications around the globe, a testament to the PT6A’s unmatched versatility, performance and reliability."

The company has also unveiled a new ESP PurePower PW800 service plan, exclusively designed for owners and operators of PW800 engines, which is expected to be operational in 2017.

Under the service, the operators are expected to receive a planned and preventive maintenance approach for achieving good aircraft productivity and performance.

"ESP PurePower PW800 will deliver a comprehensive suite of technical, maintenance and support offerings, providing definitive asset protection and unparalleled service."

The service includes heavy and line maintenance, various other all-inclusive services such as engine wash, borescope inspections, troubleshooting support and access to technical experts.

The company has recently received type certification for its PW814GA and PW815GA engines.

In addition, aircraft manufacturer Gulfstream has selected P&WC’s PurePower PW800 engine family for its new G500 and G600 ultra-long-range business jets.

The PurePower PW800 engine family has completed more than 4,000h of full-engine testing. On P&WC’s 747 flying test aircraft, it had completed than 600h of testing.

Last May, P&WC announced that its PurePower PW814GA engine was selected for Gulfstream’s new G500 long-range business jet, which successfully completed its first flight.

The company said that its PurePower PW800 turbofan engine was build upon environmentally sustainable, high-performance technologies, which expected to offer developments in fuel burn, emissions, noise and maintenance times.
