Weiss Technik UK Climatic Test Chambers for the Aerospace Industry

Weiss Technik UK is a market-leading manufacturer of environmental simulation systems and climatic test chambers.

We offer temperature, combined stress, climate, vibration, corrosion, altitude and emissions testing solutions. Our products also include highly accelerated life testing/highly accelerated stress screening (HALT/HASS), space simulation and on-board inert gas generation system (OBIGGS) testing, as well as customer-specific, process-integrated systems for precise, reproducible results.

Aerospace component manufacturers use Weiss Technik systems to validate the integrity of their products. Our test chambers simulate all the important environmental test situations, while our aerospace specialists can advise on how to test certain effects.

Climatic test chambers

Climatic test chambers are used for reliability testing and quality assurance in the aerospace industry. For products that must withstand changing temperatures during manufacturing, transport, storage and use, Weiss Technik offers climatic chambers that can test seasonal differences and climatic zones.

Our climate test chambers offer certified and reproducible results under accelerated conditions, allowing customers to record the effects of temperature and humidity on the lifespan, properties and functionality of their products.

ClimeEvent from Weiss Technik is the first climatic test chamber to use eco-friendly refrigerants. R449A is a hydrofluoro-olefin (HFO) blend that is used to replace the refrigerants R404A and R507 in low and medium temperature applications. Based on R-410A and R-744 (CO2), R469A is a new zeotopic refrigerant with a Global Warming Potential (GWP) of 1,357 and no ozone-depleting potential. It is 90% less harmful compared to a greenhouse gas. By using a combination of R449A and R469A, the ClimeEvent chambers provide a future-proof testing solution.

The Weiss Technik ClimeEvent system can also be configured as a walk-in test chamber. A walk-in temperature and humidity-controlled environment provides the necessary space to test bigger components, assemblies and complete products. The Walk-in ClimeEvent can be configured quickly and easily, allowing Weiss Technik to supply clients with a coordinated and complete testing solution.

The ClimeEvent climate test chamber provides high standards of performance and usability, with optimised air guidance and temperature distribution, eco-friendly refrigerants, long product lifetimes, and the easy-to-use WEBSeason® web-based user interface.

Ultra-low temperature chambers

The extreme temperatures in space subject aerospace equipment to large amounts of thermal stress. Ultra-low temperature test chambers from Weiss Technik enable testing at temperatures as low as -185°C. This offers a broader temperature range than other products on the market, with as many as 100 further degrees available.

The Weiss Technik temperature test chambers use a liquid nitrogen cooling system, which allows precise temperature control across the range of -185°C to 200°C. The fast rate of temperature change and high degree of homogeneity make aerospace equipment testing easy and reliable. Weiss Technik supplies a range of chamber sizes for ultra-low temperature testing, from 20l bench-top models to floor-standing, walk-in models with internal volumes of up to 2,200l.

OBIGGS testing chambers

OBIGGS systems are designed to replace oxygen with nitrogen-enriched air (NEA) to prevent in-flight explosions even if a spark is present. Aircraft fuel tanks are particularly at risk of explosion, and OBIGGS systems are now mandatory for both military and commercial aircraft. The Weiss Technik climatic test chamber for aerospace industry OBIGGS inert gas analysis operation and performance simulates real operating conditions, allowing equipment to be tested at different pressure levels and varying climate conditions.

Thermal vacuum test chambers

Accurate simulation of space conditions is essential to perform the required testing of space flight equipment. Weiss Technik’s thermal vacuum chambers reproduce space conditions and allow aerospace industry manufacturers to predict the behaviour of their components.

The chambers use a high-performance pump system to achieve a vacuum of as low as 10-7mbar. Meanwhile, circulating liquid nitrogen provides a temperature range of -185°C to 165°C to simulate the temperatures in space. Specific features, including aspatial temperature gradient and infrared radiation, can also be simulated as required.

The chambers also include the innovative WEBSeason® user interface for easy programming, controlling and monitoring of tests.

Sun simulation test cabinets

Weiss Technik’s SunEvent solar simulation test chamber simulates the effects of sunlight, temperature and humidity. Light resistance tests can be indispensable for aerospace products, as direct sun exposure fades painted surfaces and accelerates materials’ ageing.

Weiss Technik uses the new refrigerant R449A in its SunEvent chambers, ensuring the equipment is easy to maintain, more environmentally friendly and future-proof.

A German-made irradiation unit with a high level of homogeneity is installed on top of the chamber to simulate solar radiation while metal halide lamps provide the necessary light source. The chamber guarantees correct and reliable test results with excellent temperature and humidity consistency.
