CFM International’s CFM56-5B engines are to power five Airbus A319 aircraft owned by Germania under a $70m contract.

The engines feature Tech Insertion technology that will result in longer time on the wing through an equivalent 15LC-20°C additional exhaust gas temperature margin, and between 5% and 15% lower maintenance costs through enhanced durability.

These benefits are achieved through improvements to the high-pressure compressor, the combustor and both high and low-pressure turbines.

The engine also meets the new International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) Committee of Aviation Environmental Protection standards (CAEP 6) that took effect in early 2008.

CFM International is a 50/50 joint company between Snecma and GE.
