GE Aviation will provide maintenance, repair and overhaul services for the GEnx-1B engine to Air India, under its GE branded services agreement (GBSA).

The carrier will build a $90m facility for GEnx and GE90 engines that will include an engine test centre that will cater to its entire widebody fleet and serve third parties.

Under the GBSA, Air India will be licensed to perform maintenance and overhaul work on the GEnx-1B engine.

Air India chairman and managing director Arvind Jadhav said the collaboration would increase the visibility and improve their standing in the global marketplace.

GE will also assist the airline with overhaul workscoping and component repair licences, comprehensive material support and training.

The agreement is in line with Air India’s aim to become a global MRO service provider.
