The Indian Air Force will get additional 40 Su-30MKI jet fighters, under a procurement contract signed with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) in 2007.

In series production in Komsomolsk-on-Amur and in Irkutsk, the Su-30MK combat aircraft has been designed on the platform of the Su-27UB.

The two-seater, highly-manoeuvrable Su-30MK fighter uses a variety of guided and unguided ADO for air-superiority and strikes at ground and naval surface targets, and also have an option of supporting group actions.

Under a transfer of technology agreement between HAL and Russia’s Resoboronexport for manufacturing the aircraft, HAL will procure the technical kits from Russia to assemble the aircraft.

HAL has already delivered three Su-30MKI aircraft to the IAF, while the delivery of the remaining aircraft will take place from 2011 to 2012.
