Stork Fokker will design and produce composite outboard flaps for the Airbus A350 XWB family of aircraft.

The A350 XWB is a medium-capacity, long-range, wide-body aircraft powered by Rolls-Royce Trent XWB engines that can fly up to 8,300nm.

Outboard flaps increase the surface-area of the wing during take-off and landing and for A350 XWB differential flap settings are applied, enabling the centre of lift to be moved depending on the loading.

The firm has begun work on the programme in collaboration with Airbus.

First hardware deliveries are scheduled for 2011 and Fokker intends to produce 140 sets of flaps each year.
