State-owned national flag carrier Qatar Airways and LATAM Airlines Brazil have expanded their current bilateral codeshare agreement.

The expansion was announced during a three-day visit by LATAM Airlines Group board of directors and senior management in Doha.

Under this codeshare agreement, Qatar Airways’ passengers will have access to various destinations, including Rio de Janeiro, Brasilia, Curitiba, Lima and Bogota across Brazil and South America.

It will also provide LATAM passengers with the opportunity to travel on Qatar Airways’ flights between Sao Paulo and Doha.

In addition, onward connections are also available to more than 25 destinations, including Vietnam, Malaysia and Singapore across Middle-East, East Africa and South Asia.

Qatar Airways chief executive Akbar Al Baker said: “Since 2017, Qatar Airways has witnessed the significant benefits that codeshare cooperation has brought, providing passengers with unrivalled service and a seamless connection between South America and the Middle-East and Asia.

“The expansion of the codeshare agreement between Qatar Airways and LATAM Airlines Brazil will provide even greater connectivity for passengers of the World’s Best Airline and the Best Airline in South America.”

Qatar Airways began flight operations to Brazil in 2010 and signed the first unilateral codeshare agreement with LATAM Airlines Brazil in August 2017.

It has been a member of global airline alliance oneworld since 2013.

Headquartered in Chile, LATAM Airlines operates in 25 countries across 143 destinations.

LATAM Airlines CEO Enrique Cueto said: “We thank Qatar Airways for inviting us to Doha to hold our board meeting and visit its state-of-the-art facilities. We had productive meetings and had the opportunity to learn about the products and services that make it one of the world’s leading airlines for customers.”
