Volaris has signed a memorandum of understanding to buy 44 eco-efficient Airbus A320 aircraft for $3.7bn, comprising 30 A320neos and 14 A320 family aircraft.

The A320neo, expected to enter service from 2015, offers a range up to 500nm (950km) and features latest-generation engines and large Sharklet wing tip devices.

Currently, the carrier operates 33 Airbus aircraft and has a backlog of 15 planes.

The 44 A320 family aircraft are expected to help Volaris renew its fleet and continue its expansion.
