Russia’s Sukhoi Civil Aircraft has revealed SportJet, a new aircraft concept equipped with a cabin designed to fly professional sports teams.

Introduced at the ongoing Farnborough International Airshow in the UK, SportJet is the third product in the Sukhoi Civil Aircraft range, along with the Sukhoi Superjet 100 (SSJ100) and the Sukhoi Business Jet (SBJ).

Based on the technology of SSJ100, which was first delivered to European airline CityJet in May, the SportJet concept is developed in partnership with sports physicians, experts and managers.

“Today, Sukhoi Superjet can lay claims to becoming one of the most sought-after regional jets in China.”

Implementing new medical and IT solutions, the concept aims to address the impact of flights such as jet lag, hypoxia, dehydration, stress on the body and aerophobia.

SportJet is scheduled for release and certification in 2018.

Sukhoi Civil Aircraft commerce senior vice-president Evgeny Andrachnikov said: “We are sure that flights for professional sports teams on sportjets will eventually become an integral part of the air transportation market.”

Meanwhile, the company has announced its plan to open its first overseas office in Beijing, China.

Sukhoi Civil Aircraft president Ilya Tarasenko said: “We are opening our corporate office in China as a part of our commercial strategy aimed at key international markets.

“China is a highly promising commercial aviation market and its potential grows year by year.

“Today, Sukhoi Superjet can lay claims to becoming one of the most sought-after regional jets in China.”

Scheduled to open by the end of this year, the company’ new Beijing office will oversee marketing, promotion, certification and arrangements for financial support of the SSJ100, SBJ and SportJet by Sukhoi aircraft sales.
