Rockwell Collins has unveiled its new MultiScan ThreatTrack weather radar that provides improved atmospheric threat assessment capabilities for aircraft.

Due to be showcased at Singapore Airshow, Rockwell Collin’s MultiScan ThreatTrack has been built upon the company’s MultiScan weather radar with additional features and improved safety and efficiency.

The system delivers hail and lightning prediction within a thunderstorm cell and its ‘predictive overflight’ feature warns the aircraft crew if the cells will be in the flight path.

It features two levels of turbulence detection, severe and ride-quality, which provides accurate information on the type of turbulence in the path.

Rockwell Collins Air Transport Systems vice-president and general manager Steve Timm said: "With MultiScan ThreatTrack, passenger satisfaction will increase with smoother flights and more on-time arrivals."

The Rockwell Collin’s new system’s capabilities for Next-Generation Boeing 737s include patented Track-While-Scan technology, core threat assessment, associated threat assessment, predictive overflight, two-level enhanced turbulence detection, predictive windshear detection, and geographic weather correlation.

MultiScan ThreatTrack is expected secure certification for Boeing 777 jets next month.
