UAE-based airline Etihad Airways has selected Honeywell Aviaso’s software to measure the effectiveness of its existing fuel efficiency initiatives.

Providing post-flight analysis from a variety of the company’s data sources, the software can also be used by Etihad Airways for EU emissions trading system reporting.

Execution of the software system has already started and Etihad Airways’ partner airlines are also expected to deploy the solution this year.

"Etihad Airways is committed to adopting best practices across the airline’s business, including the latest technology to further develop our fuel-efficient operations."

The airline also plans to implement more fuel efficiency initiatives based on the analysis delivered by the software, which will support the carrier in discovering new areas for fuel savings.

Honeywell Aviaso sales director Jason Wissink said: "Fuel management services are a critical part of the modern global aviation industry.

"The flexibility of the Honeywell Aviaso’s fuel efficiency software to integrate with systems already in place at Etihad Airways will enable a fast deployment and the ability to support future fleet growth."

The Honeywell Aviaso fuel efficiency software includes more than 100 ready-made analysis reports, which help an airline to understand fuel consumption and identify potential savings.

Honeywell Aviaso’s fuel efficiency software helps airlines manage fuel efficiency programmes and current software users have recorded fuel savings of more than 2% a year.

Etihad Airways chief operations officer Richard Hill said: "Etihad Airways is committed to adopting best practices across the airline’s business, including the latest technology to further develop our fuel-efficient operations."

Fuel consumption can comprise as much as 40% of an airline’s operating costs, and the slightest efficiency improvements can save airlines millions of dollars in fuel spending.
