Airbus has signed an agreement with Magellan Aerospace to manufacture and supply complex, 5-axis machined wing ribs for Airbus’ single aisle A320 family, including the A320neo aircraft.

The new agreement, which will complement the existing A320 wing ribs manufactured by Magellan Aerospace, is expected to generate around $20m in revenues over the next five years.

As part of the deal, Magellan will invest in a new high-speed, 5-axis machining centre, which will be located in its facility in Greyabbey, Northern Ireland, in order to improve the capabilities of its existing machining facilities.

"Magellan will invest in a new high-speed, 5-axis machining centre."

Magellan Aerospace president and chief executive officer Jim Butyniec said: "This new package, together with Magellan’s existing wing rib packages, secures our position as a major supplier on the A320 programme," Butyniec said.

The latest agreement follows Magellan Aerospace’s $45m deal with Airbus in November last year for A350 XWB.

The previous contract included a series of machined and assembled structural components for the fuselage structure in A350 XWB, which supports the cabin storage bins and aircraft systems.

Magellan Aerospace provides complex assemblies and systems solutions to aircraft and engine manufacturers, as well as defence and space agencies worldwide.

The company focuses on designing, engineering and manufacturing of aeroengine and aerostructure assemblies and components for aerospace markets, advanced products for military and space markets, industrial power generation, and specialty products.
