Pratt & Whitney (P&W) has signed three deals to supply its PurePower PW1100G-JM engines to the Airbus A320 family aircraft, at the current Paris Air Show.

The company has signed memorandum of understandings (MoU) with Korean Air and Turkish Airlines, as well as securing a contract with SMBC Aviation Capital for the engines.

Korean Air’s MoU includes 30 PW1100G-JM engines, with the option for 20 more for its A321neo aircraft.

Korean Air executive vice-president Walter Cho said: "Our customers expect operational efficiency and reliability from Korean Air; the PW1100G-JM engine will ensure we meet those expectations with the added benefit of a step-change improvement in environmental performance."

Turkish Airlines has selected the PW1100G-JM engines to power its 72 firm and 20 option A321neo aircraft, which are scheduled for delivery from 2017 onwards.

Said to be the world’s third-largest aircraft lessor, SMBC Aviation Capital has placed an order for the PW1100G-JM engines to equip its 30 Airbus A320neo aircraft.

P&W commercial engines president Greg Gernhardt said: "Customers continue to select the PurePower engine because they recognise they are investing in their future since no other engine today can deliver similar value in terms of reductions in noise, fuel burn, emissions and overall cost savings."

PurePower engines have so far completed 19,000 hours and 34,000 cycles of testing, including 5,000 hours of flight time.

Japanese Aero Engines (JAEC) holds a 23% stake in the PW1100G-JM programme. The consortium comprises IHI, Kawasaki Heavy Industries, and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries.

JAEC develops, manufactures and engineers fans, low-pressure compressors, combustors, and low-pressure shafts for aircraft engines.
