Spanish private airline Air Europa Lineas Aéreas (AEA) has awarded a contract to Lufthansa Technik to supply components for its 22 Boeing 787 aircraft.

The contract will commence from March 2016 with the addition of the airline’s new 787 to its fleet.

The scope of work under the total component support (TCS) contract will cover the overhaul of airframe and engine-related components, and engineering services, as well as pooling and home base lease.

The company will fulfil the contract from its facilities in Frankfurt and Hamburg in Germany.

Air Europa maintenance and engineering director Alberto Linés said: "In the past we made good experience with Lufthansa Technik’s support in different technical services.

"This is the reason why we have decided to expand our partnership with Lufthansa Technik to component services for our new Boeing 787 fleet, the future core of our long-haul operation."

The airline has partnered with Lufthansa since 2002 on various maintenance, repair and overhaul services.

Lufthansa Technik currently provides landing gear services for AEA’s Boeing 737NG and Airbus A330 aircraft. The company also delivers overhaul services for the carrier’s CFM56-7 engines, and the CF34-10 engines that power the Embraer E-195 fleet.

Lufthansa Technik Europe sales director Georgios Ouzounidis said: "This contract signature is the latest milestone in our long-lasting partnership, which started in 2002.

"We will do our best to help ensure that Air Europa continues to meet its customers’ expectations of providing a highly reliable product."

Earlier this year, AEA finalised a deal with Boeing to purchase 14 wide-body 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft.
