Oman Air has entered into a letter of intent (LOI) with Dubai Aerospace Enterprise (DAE) for the sale and leaseback of two new B737-800 jets.

Part of the airline’s fleet and network expansion plan, the first of the two aircraft has already been delivered last month.

The second aircraft is planned to be delivered in this month.

Oman Air deputy CEO and chief commercial officer Abdulrahman Al-Busaidy said: “By expanding the size of our fleet, Oman Air is able to offer many more people the opportunity of experiencing our award-winning in-flight products and services, as well as our exemplary on-time performance.

“Our B737 aircraft serve as the backbone of our fleet and we are extremely pleased to have agreed the sale and leaseback arrangement with Dubai Aerospace Enterprise.”

Established in 2014, Oman Air’s expansion programme aims to increase its fleet size to 70 aircraft by 2020.

When completed, the airline's fleet will include 45 narrow-body aircraft and 25 wide-body aircraft.

“Our B737 aircraft serve as the backbone of our fleet."

Since October 2014, the airline has received seven B737-800s and five B737-900 jets.

Established in 2006, Dubai Aerospace Enterprise has an aircraft leasing portfolio of 76 aircraft worth approximately $4bn.

Oman Air and Saudi Arabian Airlines recently finalised a codeshare agreement that feature services between Muscat, Oman and four destinations in Saudi Arabia.

Under the deal, customers would be able to book flights through either airline for services between Muscat and Saudi Arabia’s Riyadh, Dammam, Jeddah, or Medina.
