Berkshire Hathaway private aviation subsidiary NetJets has set two world speed records while flying Bombardier’s ultra-long-range segment Global 6000 aircraft, which is known to be the largest business jet.

Both records include covering a long distance within a very short period of time.

NetJets, which operated a Bombardier Global 6000, covered a distance of 7,719 km in eight hours at a maximum speed of M0.89. The flight flew between Aspen Pitkin County Airport in Colorado and London City Airport.

The second record was set during a round trip between London City Airport and Lugano Airport. The flight covered 1,782 km distance in 2 hours and 43 minutes.

NetJets sales and marketing executive vice-president Patrick Gallagher said: "We don’t believe that our customers should have to compromise comfort for access or performance.

"The Global 6000 aircraft is an all-round impressive flying machine, and these achievements, in particular, showcase its extraordinary power and versatility."

"The Global 6000 aircraft better enables us to offer them the ultimate in performance and luxury, taking them where they need to go in the most efficient and comfortable manner."

Bombardier said its Global 6000 and Global 5000 aircraft fleet are capable to fly in and out of airports which are difficult to access.

The business jet is also said to offer more cabin volume and floor space.

Bombardier Business Aircraft president David Coleal said: "The Global 6000 aircraft is an all-round impressive flying machine, and these achievements, in particular, showcase its extraordinary power and versatility.

"These record flights demonstrate just why the Global 6000 aircraft is a leader in its class."

In 2011, NetJets placed a firm order for 50 Global business jets with options for another 70 Global aircraft.

Separately, Bombardier will deliver two Global 5000 aircraft to ExecuJet Middle East.
