Kuwait Airways has firmed up its order for 25 Airbus aircraft, worth $4.4bn at list prices, as part of the flag carrier’s fleet renewal plan.

The order includes ten A350-900s and 15 A320neo Family aircraft.

Kuwait Airways currently operates three A320s, three A310s, five A300 sand four A340 Family aircraft.

Kuwait Airways chairperson Rasha Al Roumi said: "The A350-900 will strengthen our long-haul route development, whilst the A320neo will further boost our regional route network. These aircraft are an essential part of our ambitious growth plans."

"These aircraft are an essential part of our growth plans."

The A320neo, offered as an option for the A320 Family aircraft, is equipped with new efficient engines and large Sharklet wing-tip devices, which together can deliver up to 15% in fuel savings.

Airbus’ A350 XWB, a new mid-size long range product line, feature a fuselage cross-section that can accommodate the aircraft maker’s 18in economy seat-width for long range passenger comfort.

Airbus Customers chief operating officer John Leahy said, "By choosing the A320neo and A350 XWB, Kuwait Airways will offer its passengers the industry’s best-in-class cabin experience on both long and short haul routes, flying them comfortably in the widest seats in all classes."

This order was announced in December last year when the carrier signed a memorandum of understanding to purchase 25 aircraft with an option for further ten and to lease 12 aircraft.
