Gogo

Wi-Fi provider Gogo has signed a deal with global satellite operator SES to provide high-speed in-flight connectivity on travel routes over the Americas, Caribbean and North Atlantic.

This deal will provide Gogo access to high throughput satellite (HTS) spot beam and wide beam capacity aboard the SES-14 and SES-15 satellites, which are expected to launch next year.

The advanced HTS satellites will cover North America, including Alaska, Hawaii, Mexico and Canada, as well as Central and South America, the Caribbean and the North Atlantic regions.

Passengers travelling on these routes will have access to next-generation, enhanced in-flight entertainment and connectivity.

Gogo will also have access to HTS capacity on an additional SES-12 HTS satellite, which will launch next year, with coverage over Asia, the Middle East, North Africa and Russia.

"We offer the necessary global connectivity, from Hawaii to Rome and the Arctic Circle to Patagonia."

SES Americas commercial senior vice-president Elias Zaccack said: "Onboard two new satellites, SES-14 and SES-15, we have one of the best hybrid HTS solutions in the world.

"It is ideally placed to meet the dynamic demands of airlines and their passengers, who expect high-performing connectivity anywhere they go.

"We offer the necessary global connectivity, from Hawaii to Rome and the Arctic Circle to Patagonia.

"We offer a fully redundant network at a competitive cost, using low weight and backwards compatible onboard equipment.

"We offer high quality gate-to-gate service with the best possible availability.

"Our HTS satellite constellation and customer solution thus offers unique features for aeronautical connectivity."

Gogo expects to bring more capacity to provide an improved experience on its live television, Gogo TV.

Gogo chief technology officer Anand Chari said: "Obviously, increased capacity will drive a better customer experience, and we are driving significant value for our airline partners by developing systems that are open and capable of leveraging new technologies as they become available."
