Global Eagle Entertainment (GEE) has secured a contract with flydubai airline to provide broadband AIRCONNECT satellite connectivity system for its current and future next-generation Boeing 737-800 fleet.

GEE will provide solutions for in-flight connectivity, in-seat IFE content and operations data for flydubai’s Boeing airliners.

The company will also add the capability to update media content on the existing in-seat IFE system using the AIRCONNECT connectivity system.

The agreement will provide flydubai with a unique offering and technical capabilities, GEE said.

"We are able to provide the highest standards and latest innovations of in-flight services to our passengers and enhance their on-board experience."

GEE chief executive Dave Davis said: "This is a ground-breaking opportunity for both companies and will provide flydubai with the industry’s broadest and most integrated in-flight entertainment and connectivity solution."

The integrated IFE and connectivity platform will offer passengers with WiFi-enabled internet connectivity better services, as well as a library of stored content. The airline already uses GEE’s media content platform.

Flydubai CEO Ghaith Al Ghaith said: "GEE’s solution, which we are deploying across our fleet, will bring a new level of connectivity to our passengers.

"With an integrated in-flight entertainment, connectivity and digital media system, we are able to provide the highest standards and latest innovations of in-flight services to our passengers and enhance their on-board experience."

California-headquartered GEE offers media content, technology, and connectivity solutions to the travel industry. It also provides in-flight solutions such as Wi-Fi, movies, television, music, interactive software, portable IFE solutions, content management services and e-commerce solutions.
