American Airlines (AA) has selected the CFM56-5B engine from CFM International for its A319 aircraft, and V2500-A5 engines from International Aero Engines (IAE) for its A321 aircraft, as part of fleet transformation plans.

AA selected these engines for its new Airbus fleet to enhance operational performance and fuel efficiency.

The Airbus A320 family aircraft offer a 35% reduction in fuel cost per seat and, when compared to 757 and 767-200 aircraft, offer a 12%and 15% fuel cost reduction per seat respectively.

American is expected to take delivery of 130 current-generation aircraft from the Airbus A320 family starting in 2013.
