The Mitsubishi regional jet (MRJ) under development with the Mitsubishi Aircraft (MJET) is to receive tailcone sections designed and built by LMI Aerospace.

The aircraft will have seating for 98 passengers in a single-class configuration and fly a distance of up to 3,300nm at a speed of Mach 0.78.

The contract includes design, analysis, certification support, tool design and test support culminating in full-rate manufacture and spares production and LMI will be involved in the entire life cycle from the joint development phase.

The firm will deliver the first tailcone structure to MJET in the third quarter of 2011.

The MRJ is expected to enter into service in 2014.
