Chile-based Latam Airlines Group has revealed the new design for its aircraft.

The first three commercial flights with the new Latam image are scheduled to operate on 5 May.

Tthe first flight of a Latam-branded aircraft, which a specially prepared Boeing 767, recently departed Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to Geneva, Switzerland, to collect the Olympic torch.

Formed in the consolidation of Lan Airlines, Tam Airlines and their affiliates, Latam stated that more than 50 aircraft are expected to be rebranded before the end of this year with expectations to finalise the fleet-wide process in 2018.

Repainting an aircraft takes on average six to 12 days and will be carried out in accordance with routine maintenance to maximise efficiency.

While undertaking the task, Latam Airlines Group is painting its aircraft using new Clearcoat technology, which is 25% lighter than conventional methods.

"More than 50 aircraft are expected to be rebranded before the end of this year with expectations to finalise the fleet-wide process in 2018."

According to the company, the new painting technology will result in an average weight reduction of 20kg per aircraft and help reducing its CO2 emissions of 3,900t a year.

Latam will also make a number of other changes in 13 airports where the group’s airlines operate including their hubs in Santiago, São Paulo (Guarulhos), Lima and Brasilia, as well as Río de Janeiro (Galeão), São Paulo (Congonhas), Buenos Aires (Ezeiza), Bogotá, Quito, Miami, Madrid, Guiyaquil and New York (JFK).

Changes will include new-look check-in counters and VIP lounges, rebranded boarding passes, screen displays and new uniforms for 23,000 cabin crew, sales office and airport staff.

The group is also planning to launch its new integrated website in six languages in order to help passengers purchasing tickets, checking-in, reviewing real-time flight statuses, setting-up alerts and providing access other travel information.

In a bid to support the launch of the new Latam products and services, the company is intending to launch integrated marketing campaigns in each of the countries where it operates.
