Chinese carrier Juneyao Airlines has placed an order with The Boeing Company for five 787-9 Dreamliner twin-engine jet aircraft.

The $1.32bn contract includes options for five additional 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft.

MTU Aero Engines and Lufthansa Technik have agreed to set up a joint venture (JV) with a $157.9m investment.

The JV is aimed at providing maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) services of geared turbofan engines.

Subject to approval of the relevant anti-trust authorities, the JV is expected to be established in the second half of the year.

Canadian firm Metamaterial Technologies has entered a deal with Airbus to co-develop metaAIR laser protection solution, through its Lamda Guard optical filters division.

The partners will develop, test, certify and commercialise the metaAIR solution, which is a meta-material optical filter intended to provide vision protection to aircraft pilots against laser strikes.

Kacific Broadband Satellites and SKY Perfect JSAT Corporation have placed an order with Boeing for the construction of the JCSAT-18 high-throughput satellite based on the Boeing 702 communication satellite bus.

Scheduled to be launched in 2019, the satellite will operate in Ku and Ka bands to provide broadband services over the Asia-Pacific.

YTO Cargo Airlines has ordered three B737-300 P-to-F converted aircraft from PEMCO World Air Services, Inc.

With a payload capacity of 43,100lb, the converted aircraft will be delivered in Q4 this year.
