737-900ER

Boeing has delivered a Next-Generation 737-900ER (Extended Range) aircraft to Israeli national carrier EL AL, which is the first of six 737-900ERs ordered by the carrier.

EL AL’s latest addition to its all-Boeing fleet has a capacity to accommodate 172 passengers, with power sockets for their laptops and USB connections for all passengers.

EL AL president and chief executive officer Elyezer Shkedy said the purchase of the Boeing 737-900ER aircraft marks the high point of EL AL’s re-equipping and fleet renewal impetus.

"This positions EL AL at the forefront of international aviation technology, further elevating EL AL’s in-flight experience," Shkedy said.

According to Boeing, 737-900ER, a new member of the Next-Generation 737 aircraft family, has the highest capacity and lowest seat-mile cost of its single-aisle range, and is the first to feature the new Boeing Sky Interior.

Boeing Sky Interior comprises new LED lighting and curved architecture, along with modern, sculpted sidewalls and overhead bins that disappear into the ceiling.

Boeing Commercial Airplanes Europe Sales vice-president Todd Nelp said: "The 737-900ER will enable EL AL to greatly expand its operations across Europe, while offering its passengers the superior passenger comfort of the Boeing Sky Interior."

The Israeli-flag carrier operates a fleet of about 40 aircraft including Next-Generation 737s, 747-400s, 767s and 777s and serves 30 destinations across the world.
