Airbus is to deliver 20 A320 aircraft and five A350-900 airliners to Brazilian carrier TAM.

The A350-900 aircraft will be powered by Rolls-Royce engines. TAM is yet to decide on engines for the new A320 family of aircraft.

All new aircraft will serve on TAM’s existing routes and the additional A320s will replace the airline’s current A320 aircraft in accordance with their fleet plan of keeping the average fleet age to six years or below.

TAM Airlines CEO Líbano Barroso said the new aircraft would allow TAM to continue its strategy of operating a common fleet throughout its domestic market.

The single-aisle A320 can carry up to 185 passengers a distance of 3,700nm, while the A350-900 can fly up to 8,100nm with up to 314 passengers.
