Nasa has unveiled the design for a one-person aircraft named Puffin.

The twin-engine 12ft Puffin will be capable of vertical take-off and landing and will hover and cruise horizontally with the pilot lying prone as in a glider, according to Spacewar.

The craft uses electric propulsion technology to complete missions not possible with turbine or reciprocating engines. It can cruise at speeds up to 150mph and dash at 250mph.

The aircraft has been designed in collaboration with the Massachusetts institute of technology, the Georgia institute of technology and the National Institute of Aerospace.
