The US Air Force has deployed the third Afghan National Army Air Corps (ANAAC) C-27 / G.222 aircraft, to Kabul, Afghanistan, following its delivery in December 2009.

The aircraft, delivered from Alenia’s Capodichino facility, will fly jointly with the Combined Air Power Transition Force (CAPTF).

The C-27 / G.222 takes off and lands in almost any condition and operates successfully in harsh environments.

It takes part in humanitarian and peacekeeping operations, firefighting, medical evacuation, troop transport and logistical support around the world.

In 2008, the USAF awarded a contract to Alenia for supplying 18 upgraded C-27 / G.222 aircraft for the Afghan National Army Air Corps (ANAAC).

The main role of the C-27 / G.222 aircraft is to support the ANAAC in providing humanitarian aid and security to the Afghan population.

Currently, Alenia is carrying out modernisation work on ten C-27 / G.222 aircraft at its Capodichino plant, where the original assembly of the aircraft was also performed.
