Plextek, Aremeca Sendirian Berhad and the Universiti Kuala Lumpur Malaysian Institute of Aviation Technology (UniKL MIAT) are to participate in a $14bn Malaysian light aircraft programme.

Plextek will develop the light aircraft architecture including the communications system, flight controls, engine and sensor integration, and will establish the entire supply chain in Malaysia.

UniKL will test the aircraft and build it at its facilities as also aid in commercialisation of the airplane.

Plextek technical director Ian Murphy said the aircraft would be used in a wide range of applications in Malaysia including border security, monitoring coastal erosion and countering piracy.

Aremeca provides services in aeronautical resources and engineering development sectors under the UniKL MIAT technology incubator.

UniKL offers engineering technology programmes covering aviation, aerospace and other industries.
