Boeing’s 777 series commercial airliner is to receive flaperons from Hindustan Aeronautics (HAL) under a new contract.

The 777 flaperon is a complex composite assembly that controls the aircraft’s manoeuvrability in flight. A flaperon works both as an aileron to control roll and as a flap to control lift of an aircraft.

The 777 family of aircraft can fly up to 7,930nm at a typical cruise speed of Mach 0.84.

HAL will make the delivery in phases to Boeing.

Air India has ordered flaperons for 23 of its 777s and Jet Airways has ordered flaperons for 13 of its aircraft.
