Boeing has successfully launched the WorldView-2 earth-imaging satellite for DigitalGlobe atop a Delta II rocket.

The Ball Aerospace-built satellite will conduct mission to collect and record commercial, high-resolution earth imagery.

The WorldView-2 is the second of DigitalGlobe’s next-generation imaging satellites which is based on Ball commercial’s platform 5000 spacecraft.

The two are the only commercial satellites integrated with control moment gyroscopes which provide up to 10 times the acceleration of other attitude control actuators and their agility improve both manoeuvring and targeting capability.

The Delta II released WorldView-2 into a sun-synchronous orbit about 62 minutes after lift-off.
