Honeywell will provide auxiliary power units (APUs) and a ten-year maintenance programme to China’s Hainan Airlines for 13 new Airbus A320 aircraft.

The APU is a small gas-powered turbine engine that provides bleed air for main engines and starting and electrical power for cockpit and galley systems.

The 131-9A unit offered by Honeywell is used for single-aisle commercial transport.

The unit also reduces emissions and fuel consumption over the life of the APU.

Honeywell will provide the APUs for new A320s ordered by the airways that will be delivered between 2010 and 2012 and will provide maintenance for the aircraft through 2022.
