Rockwell Collins will provide the avionic suite for ten of China Southern Airlines’ A330 aircraft.

The avionics suite includes a multiscan weather radar, GLU-920 multimode receiver (MMR) and advanced sensors to analyse and predict actual weather hazards.

The system combines multiple scans into a single, comprehensive view of the weather for an automatic, hands-free airborne radar system that minimises unexpected turbulence encounters.

The GLU-920 MMR is an integrated unit that provides the aircraft’s primary satellite-based position, velocity and time reference, and enables precision landing capability.

The MMR is designed to meet future air traffic management requirements while offering commonality across fleet types.

Other equipment such as the automatic direction finder, high-frequency system, coupling unit, very high frequency transceiver, and a global navigation antenna will form a part of the suite.

Deliveries are expected to begin by March 2010.
