Bombardier’s Learjet 85 will be fitted with Meggitt’s new generation fire protection system, under a new contract.

The system comprises fire and smoke detection equipment and fire extinguishing components to protect the engines, auxiliary power unit and cargo compartments of the aircraft.

The protection system’s new controller monitors the entire system and reports to the flight deck for action by crew or automatic systems shut-down.

Using algorithms, the system can differentiate between true and false alarms enhancing the ability to dispatch aircraft without safety compromises.

The Meggitt system has a full Air Transportation Association chapter 26 fire protection system approval from Federal Aviation administration and European Aviation Safety Agency.
