The Federal Aviation Administration has certified Gulfstream’s Enhanced Vision System II (EVS II) for use in its G150 aircraft.

The EVS II augments situational awareness at night and in low-visibility conditions, and enables better visibility of terrain, runways, taxiways and approaches.

The system uses an infrared camera mounted on the aircraft’s nose to generate actual, real-time images of the surroundings.

Images from EVS II appear on the G150’s multifunction displays and enable EVS window heat to prevent ice formation on the exterior window.

The new vision system is lighter by 22lb, and has four times the computational power and memory of the original EVS certified by FAA in 2001.

EVS II was certified for use on large-cabin Gulfstream aircraft in late 2007.
