The Israeli Ministry of transportation will receive commercial multispectral infrared countermeasure (C-MUSIC) systems for the nation’s commercial aircraft from Elbit Systems under a new contract.

The infrared missile countermeasure technology is used in military aircraft and helicopters to disrupt missiles fired at aircraft and veer them off the course by transmitting laser beams.

Elbit Systems president and chief executive officer Joseph Ackerman said that C-MUSIC will assist in protecting commercial aircraft worldwide.

The $76m countermeasure systems that can deal with multiple threats rapidly have recently completed a series of flight tests.

International air forces and aviation industries are interested in the system and its capabilities, the company said.
