Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) will manufacture S-92 helicopter cabins for Sikorsky in India, according to a new agreement.

TASL chief executive officer Davinder Kumar said that the agreement will help the company establish its presence in manufacturing aerostructures.

The 19-seater S-92 can reach a cruising speed of 280km/h and has a range of 539nm.

The helicopter performs offshore oil transport, executive transport, search and rescue, airline and utility missions.

The chopper is certified by the US Federal Aviation Administration and European Aviation Safety Agency to their stringent safety standards.

The first of the S-92 cabins to be delivered in 2010 will be manufactured at a new greenfield facility to be constructed by TASL in Andhra Pradesh, India.

While Stratford-based Sikorsky designs, manufactures and services helicopters, TASL addresses needs of the Indian security industry focusing on defence, homeland security and disaster management.
