International Launch Services (ILS) intends to launch the Skyterra 2 satellite for mobile satellite communications services supplier Skyterra by late 2010.

The geo-mobile satellite is meant to create a space-based network for Skyterra along with Skyterra 1.

It provides on-orbit flexibility such as frequency spectrum modification, capacity redistribution, and spot beam reconfiguration to meet changing business demand over time to the operator.

The network will include continental US, southern Canada, Hawaii, Alaska, northern Canada, the Virgin Islands, Mexico and the Caribbean in its coverage area.

Skyterra 2 previously known a MSV-2, is a Boeing 702 satellite weighing 5.4t under construction at its El Segundo site.

The launch will be implemented with support from Khrunichev.
