US-based satellite rideshare and mission management provider Spaceflight is set to launch 11 miniature spacecraft from India’s Satish Dhawan Space Center by early next month.

The proposed launch will be conducted by a PSLV-C40 rocket developed by Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).

It will include Finland’s ICEYE-X1 microsatellite, Planetary Resources’ Arkyd-6 6U asteroid prospecting demonstration CubeSat, four Spire Global Lemur-2 CubeSats, Astro Digital’s Landmapper-BC3 satellite, AMSAT’s Fox-1D CubeSat, and satellites from other Spaceflight customers.

“This mission brings new customers from outside the industry into space while continuing partnerships with existing customers for their ongoing satellite constellations.”

The satellites will rideshare with the Cartosat-2ER navigation satellite, manufactured by ISRO for cartographic, urban and rural applications, as well as coastal land use and regulation, and precision studies.

The 100kg ICEYE-X1 SAR satellite to be launched in the mission is said to be Finland’s first commercial satellite, which is equipped with synthetic-aperture radar (SAR) sensor technologies suitable for satellites weighing less than 100kg.

Once launched, the satellite will be used to receive images of the Earth captured by radar through clouds, and even in total darkness and other services.

Spaceflight president Curt Blake said: “PSLV-C40 is a perfect example of how our flexible, full-service rideshare model is enabling new commercial space businesses to exist while expanding into new markets.

“This mission brings new customers from outside the industry into space while continuing partnerships with existing customers for their ongoing satellite constellations.”

Spaceflight has already integrated the CubeSats at its Seattle Integration Facility in the US and is currently in process of shipping the spacecraft to India.

The company has so far negotiated the launch of more than 120 satellites and is currently in contracts with various customers to deploy nearly 200 new probes throughout the next year.
