Latin American budget carrier Viva Air has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Airbus to buy 50 A320 family aircraft, including 35 A320neo and 15 A320ceo jets.

The new aircraft are expected to help the group’s VivaColombia and Viva Air Peru airlines to renew their respective fleets.

VivaColombia founder and CEO William Shaw said: “Our customers are at the forefront of everything we do.

“This new fleet will allow us to continue leading the development of the low cost model throughout Latin America.

“We will be able to offer even lower fares thanks to further cost savings that these new aircraft will deliver.”

Owned by Irelandia Aviation, Viva Air has recently launched Viva Air Peru, the sister airline of VivaColombia, which has a fleet of nine A320 aircraft.

“We will be able to offer even lower fares thanks to further cost savings that these new aircraft will deliver.”

Viva Air Peru currently operates two aircraft. All the VivaColombia and Viva Air Peru planes are available in 180-seat configurations.

Irelandia has so far developed six international low-cost carriers, which operate a combined fleet of more than 420 aircraft and have collectively carried over a billion passengers.

In a separate development, Airbus had entered a MoU with Ireland’s CDB Aviation Lease Finance DAC (CDB Aviation) for 45 aircraft, consisting of 30 A320neos and 15 A321neos.
