US-based National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has awarded a $113m deal to Vencore to support its national environmental satellite, data and information service (NESDIS).

With a one-year base period with four one-year options, the deal is part of NOAA’s systems engineering and technical services (SETS) contract.

Through NESDIS, NOAA acquires and manages the US’ operational environmental satellites.

“We are honoured to work with NESDIS, which plays such an integral role in managing critical space assets."

NESDIS also operates NOAA’s National Centres for Environmental Information, which provides various data and information services, performs official environmental assessments and conducts related research.

Vencore president and CEO Mac Curtis said: “Our business was built on a foundation of understanding and solving the most complex challenges associated with satellite and ground operations.

“We are honoured to work with NESDIS, which plays such an integral role in managing critical space assets that make important contributions to environmental resource management and our national security.”

As part of the newly announced deal, Vencore will also work with NESDIS to provide systems engineering services and solutions to sustain legacy systems, as well as enable the transition of future ground systems for new environmental satellites such as the GOES-R and JPSS.

Employing 3,800 people, Vencore currently provides various information solutions, engineering and analytics for various civil, defence and intelligence communities of the US Government.
