United Airlines has entered a new agreement with Boeing to convert an order for 100 737 MAX aircraft into 737 MAX 10s.

The newly placed order will allow United to become the largest single 737 MAX 10 customer in the world. Deliveries are expected to begin in late 2020.

United also announced an order for four additional Boeing 777-300ERs, taking the total order for the aircraft type to 18.

The 777-300ER features the airline’s new United Polaris business class, which includes custom-designed and exclusive seats, an improved dining experience, new custom bedding from Saks Fifth Avenue, and amenity kits.

“The 737 MAX 10 will provide even more flexibility to United's route schedule and will bring to their operation the best economics of any airplane in the single-aisle segment.”

United Airlines executive vice-president and chief financial officerAndrew Levy said: “The 737 MAX 10 will enable us to continue using larger and more efficient aircraft within our domestic network and better meet the needs of our customers today and into the future.”

With the new aircraft, the airline also seeks to offer enhanced services to its customers.

Boeing Commercial Airplanes president and CEO Kevin McAllister said: “The 737 MAX 10 will provide even more flexibility to United's route schedule and will bring to their operation the best economics of any airplane in the single-aisle segment.”

Meanwhile, Boeing has extended a contract with thyssenkrupp Group.

The extension will enable thyssenkrupp Group’s aerospace unit to continue to handle Boeing's complete aluminium and titanium metals supply chain management.

The contract includes global purchase coordination, deadline monitoring, plant material flow optimisation, warehousing, processing of aluminium and titanium products, as well as coordination of more than 550 Boeing and subcontractor production locations.
