UK-based low-cost airline Jet2.com has finalised a $2.6bn firm order with Boeing for 27 next-generation 737-800 aircraft.

The company expects to receive the 737-800NG airliners over the next two years, and will use them to serve its package holiday and flight-only customers.

The aeroplanes will be deployed to leisure destinations in the Mediterranean, the Canary Islands, and other European leisure cities.

The new fleet will help Jet2.com strengthen its business, and provide it with cost-effective, reliable and comfortable environment, the airline said.

Jet2.com operates an all-Boeing fleet of around 60 aircraft. The latest deal is its first direct order with Boeing.

A subsidiary of Dart Group, Jet2.com is started commercial aircraft operations in 1983 and passenger flights from Leeds Bradford Airport in 2003.

The airline currently flies more than three million customers each year to 55 destinations in 364 holiday resorts, from seven Northern departure bases.
