Thai Airways International is set to introduce THAI Sky Connect, a new inflight connectivity service provided by OnAir, to its fleet of Airbus A330-300 and A380-800 aircraft.

Available to passengers flying on the airline’s A380s and certain A330 flights from mid-February, the on-board Wi-Fi product Internet OnAir works as a Wi-Fi hotspot on the ground.

Users can enter credit card details, browse the internet, check emails and update social media sites.

Speaking about the development, Thai Airways Commercial Department senior executive vice-president and acting president Chokchai Panyayong said: "THAI Sky Connect is offered to THAI passengers on A330-300 and A380-800 aircraft at package rates for laptop/iPad and smartphone usage, with OnAir as the Wi-Fi service provider.

"This is a positive step forward to bring internet connectivity and modern technology directly to passengers’ fingertips."

Thai Airways noted that it is the first airline approved by the National Broadcasting Telecommunications Commission to provide inflight connectivity in Thailand’s airspace.

In addition, OnAir’s inflight GSM product, Mobile OnAir, is expected to be offered on Thai Airways’ flights, once the regulatory framework has been determined.

Internet OnAir and Mobile OnAir are currently flying on over 50 A380s every day.

Thai Airways is the 21st airline to operate OnAir connectivity.
