Textron Aviation has won an order from Sweden-based Babcock Scandinavian Air Ambulance to supply 11 aircraft.

The order comprises one medevac-configured Cessna Citation Latitude midsize jet and ten Beechcraft King Air 250 turboprop aircraft.

The new aircraft are expected to support an existing contract between Babcock and Air Ambulance Services of Norway to provide air ambulance services across the country.

Deliveries of the aircraft are slated to take place over the next 18 months and expected to end by 2019.

“The Citation Latitude has experienced tremendous success in the commercial segment since entering service just two years ago.”

Air Ambulance Services of Norway CEO Øyvind Juell said: “The introduction of the Latitude as the first jet aircraft in our fleet will enable us to reduce patient transfer times and operate direct flights across the entire country.”

Babcock’s new King Air 250 turboprop fleet will be equipped with centralised accident and trauma (CAT II) capabilities and will allow operations in reduced visibility.

The aircraft fleet will also include steep approach landing capability and be able to operate in polar regions.

Babcock’s new Cessna Citation Latitude aircraft will feature an updated door to accommodate the loading and unloading of wide medical stretchers.

Textron Aviation special mission aircraft vice-president Bob Gibbs said: “The Citation Latitude has experienced tremendous success in the commercial segment since entering service just two years ago.

“The aircraft provides steep approach capability, short runway performance and low-cabin altitude, all of which will be essential to support Babcock’s air ambulance missions in communities across Norway.”

In July, Textron Aviation secured an order from ATP Flight School to provide 15 Cessna Skyhawk 172 aircraft.
