Czech Republic-based investment firm Metatron Global has agreed to invest in American asteroid mining firm Deep Space Industries (DSI) for its asteroid mining mission.

The investment will help DSI build its first asteroid prospecting mission, Prospector 1.

It will enable DSI to accelerate its plans to explore for resources at an asteroid in the future and hire more leadership and develop high value products.

DSI will gather resources from near Earth asteroids and return them for use in Earth’s orbit, refuelling satellites and providing building materials for commercial research and production outposts in space.

"Metatron is about applying extremely serious investing principles to cutting edge companies."

Besides Metatron, other investors have participated in the company’s seed round, which is expected to close this year.

DSI chair Rick Tumlinson said: "It takes a special kind of investor to step up and support what we are doing. Metatron is that kind of company.

"They are not just writing a check, but adding their expertise and energy to ours as we move forward, adding a new and important dimension to our team."

DSI is developing several technologies for deep space missions, including high-performance propulsion systems, power and communications systems, as well as advanced navigation and operational autonomy.

These technologies will be used for interplanetary spacecraft and nanosatellites for low Earth orbit.

Metatron’s Petr Johanes said: "Metatron is about applying extremely serious investing principles to cutting edge companies. DSI meets both criteria."

Metatron is a global investment firm that search, fund and promote companies offering solutions to some of the world’s biggest challenges.
