Jacobs Engineering Group (JEG) has received a contract extension from Nasa’s Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) in Huntsville, Alabama, US.

According to terms of the contract, the company will deliver science, engineering, and technician support at MSFC.

Jacobs will also continue to provide support for flagship programmes, including the Space Launch System, International Space Station, and several smaller space science and technology development projects.

“This contract modification enables us to continue supporting its vital role in enabling space exploration and discovery.”

Jacobs aerospace and technology senior vice-president Ward Johnson said: “This contract modification enables us to continue supporting its vital role in enabling space exploration and discovery.”

The ten-month modification contract has a potential value of $246.5m, which includes an increase of $150m in contract value. The contract began on 1 October and extends the period of performance through to next July.

The contract modification seeks to extend and increase the value of the engineering and science services and skills augmentation (ESSSA) award.

In May 2012, Nasa selected Jacobs Technology for the performance-based, cost-plus-fixed-fee less deductions indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity ESSSA contract that has a potential maximum value of $600m.

The ESSSA contract has a two-year base period, followed by three one-year options that may be exercised at Nasa's discretion.
