G950 Garmin

Garmin International has received supplemental type certificate approval to equip its G950 Integrated Flight Deck on Metroliner and Twin Otter aircraft.

With this certification, the G950 portfolio expands to six aircraft variants.

The G950 is claimed to improve dispatch reliability as well as expand the operational life and capabilities of the airliners.

Garmin International aviation sales and marketing vice president Carl Wolf said: "The G950 upgrade programmes provide next-generation avionics capability with an impressive feature set at a fraction of the cost of traditional flight deck retrofits."

With its navigation, communication, terrain, traffic and weather systems, the G950 flight deck make it easier for the pilot to scan and interpret information.

It can be configured to suit a wide range of aircraft variants and features two or three primary and multi-function displays with display sizes of ten to 12in flat panel LCDs.

Incorporating all the features of Garmin G1000 integrated flight deck, the G950 integrates select autopilots already approved thereby reducing cost and installation complexity.

Other features include synthetic vision technology, ADS-B Out compliance, digital radar, satellite datalink, WAAS/LPV approach capability and charts among others.

Garmin said that the G950 can provide weight savings of around 250lb, which allows operators to carry additional passengers or cargo.

The G950 upgrade is available for the Cessna Citation 501, Piper Meridian, Beechcraft 1900D, Twin Commander, Metroliner and the De Havilland Twin Otter airliners.
